Future Clinical Commisioners to meet in public

Residents of Doncaster will this Thursday (19th January)have chance to find out more about local health care when Doncaster Clinical Commissioning Group (DCCG) holds its first public committee meeting.

DCCG – the clinically-led shadow sub-committee working alongside NHS Doncaster to effectively and efficiently commission health services in Doncaster - will hold its monthly board meeting at The Point, 16 South Parade, Doncaster from 1pm – 2.30pm.

It is an opportunity for patients and the public to hear about the improvements being made to health services and gain an insight into how services may be commissioned in the future.

The group has already been allocated delegated responsibility for local NHS budgets that pay for the healthcare of around 300,000 people in Doncaster - although it will not be a legal organisation until at least April 2013.

Committee members, who include local GPs, a nurse representative, lay members from the Doncaster area and PCT officers, will discuss a range of health matters including the recently concluded ‘Moving with the Times’ consultation.

Doncaster Clinical Commissioning Group Chairman, Dr Eric Kelly, said: “The NHS touches everyone so we are keen that Doncaster people understand the type of decisions that we are involved with and are likely to be making in the future.

“Residents will be able to get a flavour of the some of the work my clinical colleagues and I are currently involved with and the same time hearing about the mechanisms we are putting in place to represent our patients with a single voice as future clinical commissioners.

Getting patients and the public involved in how we shape health services in Doncaster is crucial to health services in the future and I hope people will be able to come this, the first of many of our meetings to be held in public.”

DCCG is working with NHS Doncaster on its priority areas with a key aim of ensuring Doncaster has a Clinical Commissioning Group – able to provide services that improve health and reduce health inequalities in the borough - accredited by the emerging NHS Commissioning Board by April 2013.
